Scoop: interoperability final rule drops info blocking fixes
Late last year, The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology proposed cutting a slew of rules, making way for a new approach to how the office regulates electronic medical infrastructure.
Well, the final rule is coming out soon and it may not be as big a shift as promised, three people with knowledge of the rule’s status told Second Opinion.
Health Data, Technology, and Interoperability-5, the fifth set of rules that advance the exchange of health data as laid out in the 21st Century Cures Act, is with the Office of Management and Budget getting finalized, those people said.
ONC head Thomas Keane confirmed the rule is getting finalized in the next couple of weeks at the Consumer Technology Association’s Health AI+ event in Washington, D.C., Wednesday.
