The Only RCM Market Map You Need

Revenue cycle management is already a large market, and it’s already set to get bigger.
With health insurers feeling a lot of pain and health systems increasingly falling into the red, it’s inevitable that the portion of the market that is responsible for collecting and processing payments is only getting more important. Revenue cycle is estimated to be a $300 billion market in the U.S. alone, and it’s a segment that will undoubtedly be transformed by AI. As we recently covered in a deep analysis on the space - see below — we are in a new phase (and potentially a final phase) for revenue cycle, where AI agents will be taking on an increasingly large portion of the work.

We referred to the space in our piece as the first “smash hit” application for AI.
Thank you to our partners at BHI - Bertelsmann Healthcare Investments, and in particular, Tim Schneider, for partnering with us on this market map. It has taken us months of work, but there will inevitably be some gaps and false categorizations. So, if you feel that you’re missing from a category of the map, please let us know for our update later in the year.
BHI launched a $200 million health-tech fund focused on the U.S. market earlier this month, as Erin from Axios exclusively reported, and the revenue cycle will be a key focus.
Thank you to everyone who supported this effort. We provided a list of credits underneath the map.
Editors’ Note: In an era of GEO, which is the new form of search powered by generative AI, we believe market maps will be essential to correctly position companies. When doing our own searches, we found that the information is wildly inaccurate. If you’d like to partner with us on a market map and help build more accurate mapping and context for the emerging category of search, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you’re a subject matter expert and you’d like to help us categorize companies, we’d also love to hear from you.
So here it is. Second Opinion’s RCM market map, with a focus on provider-facing RCM. We created a downloadable version of it if it’s easier to view and share.
