Takeaways from the Ai4 Conference

This week I was in Las Vegas, at Ai4, the largest artificial intelligence conference in the U.S., catching up with people who are at the forefront of AI in health care. 

I interviewed Tony Ambrozie, Senior Vice President and Chief Digital, Technology and Information Officer at CVS Health Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness, on how the company is designing its patient-facing products. He also answered the ever-present question: when do you buy and when do you build?   

Ambrozie says he’ll buy a product if it integrates well into CVS’ platform, but if there isn’t tech that fits into their stack seamlessly and they need something custom, it’s time to build internally. 

I also caught up with Arman Sharma, the Department of Health and Human Services Deputy Chief AI Officer. We talked about the White House AI governance sprint that I wrote about last week and how HHS sees AI as a transformational technology that can start to shift the way health care operates. Below I share excerpts from my fireside conversation with Sharma at Ai4.
